MY STORY

Solomon Kidane

"Tourism is not just my profession, it's my story. I was born and raised in Jinka, the heart of the Omo Valley. I didn't learn about this place from books - I lived it."

Solomon Kidane - Owner of Omo Valley Tours Ethiopia
Owner & Guide

My name is Solomon Kidane, and tourism is not just my profession, it's my story.

I was born and raised in Jinka, the heart of the Omo Valley and the gateway to some of the most fascinating cultures in Ethiopia. Growing up here, I didn't learn about the Omo Valley from books. I lived it. I grew up surrounded by its traditions, its communities, and its way of life.

More than 15 years ago, after completing high school, I decided to turn that deep connection into a career. I received professional tourism training and started working as a local guide in my hometown. What began as a simple job quickly became a lifelong passion.

Today, I operate tours across all four corners of Ethiopia. From the dramatic landscapes of the north to the remote beauty of the south, I have guided travelers throughout the country. But the Omo Valley remains my true specialty. It is my home, and I know it beyond the usual tourist routes.

What Makes Omo Valley Tour Ethiopia Different?

I am not just a guide who works here. I am from here. That local knowledge, combined with over 15 years of hands-on experience, allows me to offer authentic access, respectful cultural encounters, and well-organized journeys that go deeper than surface-level visits.

Chairman - Pioneers Vision Local Guide Association

This role reflects my commitment to responsible tourism and to supporting local guides and communities. I believe tourism should benefit the people who call these places home.

When you travel with us, you are not just booking a tour. You are exploring Ethiopia with someone who understands its culture, its challenges, and its beauty from the inside.

FAQ

Omo Valley tour questions, answered

How many days do I need for an Omo Valley tour?

Three days is the minimum to meet the Mursi and Hamer from Jinka. Five to seven days gives you markets, the Karo and a relaxed pace.

Can I book directly with a local guide?

Yes. You plan with a guide based in Jinka, with no agency in the middle. Send an inquiry with your dates and we reply with a proposed itinerary and a clear price.

Are Omo Valley cultural visits ethical?

They can be when groups are small, photographs are asked for and fees are agreed openly. That is how we run our tours.

What is the best time to visit the Omo Valley?

Roads are easiest in the dry months. Tell us your dates and we will advise on road conditions and the market days and ceremonies you can plan around.

Do I need a visa for Ethiopia?

Most travelers need a visa. See our Ethiopia visa guide for current entry requirements and always confirm with official sources before you travel.
