Murule

The Murule Nationality lives in Nyangatom District. It is one of the very first nationality who dwelled around the areas of South omo River. Folkloric and written documents indicate that it has its own cultural and historic values. The name of the nationality is known for a very long time and maps which are fifty to sixty years old showed where Murle is located. For example in 1956 when a writer had written about South Western people he mentioned The Murle community lived in different areas of Sudan. Their residence in Sudan is around River Pivor and on the highlands of Boma. There they are called Pibor and Boma Murle. This document explains those who are known as Murle community members are found in A?ua Streets around Akobo river.
In another way oral tales told by the elderly of the Murle tell that the ancient residence of them was karamjong /Matikey/ in the North East parts of current Uganda. From there they crossed Kenya and settled in Sudan. Because of the multitude of disagreement and cattle looting they crossed Ethiopian territory via Kibesh and settled at Kuma in the Kuraz district.
The Murle language belongs to the Nilo-Sahara language family. It is believed it is similar to Nyangatom nationality language. Topography of the place in which the Murle settled is a plain with a lowland climate. Their main means of living is rearing and cultivation. They produce sorghum, maize and haricot beans using hoes.

Cultural Administration System

The nationalitys cultural administration and structure of authority including names and detailed function is similar to Nyangatom nationalitys cultural administration system. The Murles have a cultural order performer called Kujurak whose function is under Nyangatom landlord. The Kujurak directly presents the publics inquiry to Akatukon / The Nyangatom Landlord/. He cannot decide by his own without the consent of the landlord.
